Not so good. The pain of shooting pains started and the fluid turned into pus! I have been on antil-biotics for the third time since my op. The pus has graduly recuced, and today the breast clinic said, the healing process is slow but no evidence the abcess returned, due to my recent test of ultra scan and mammagram. I don’t return until April for them to check and review situation.

This past thursday i went to the ER because my left breast, just under the nipple hurt like hell, and the lump went from the size of a pea to that of a walnut in 5 days. they drained it, and packed it. what sucks is that when they gave me the local, it didn’t work and i felt the scalpel cut me and him squeezing and pulling i felt it all and i told him and he wouldn’t stop!! i am on kefelx and septra as well as norco for the pain. they made me keep the packing in for 2 days and removed it yesterday, now its supposed to stay wide open to heal from the inside out and drain whatever is left in there.

When i asked how this happens they just say ‘it just happens’ nice huh?

I was breastfeeding for a week and had to give up because of cracked and bleeding nipples, unfortunately nobody told me not to just stop breastfeeding and instead express it out and reduce slowly. I got mastitus and despite four courses of antibiotics and several trips to accident and emergency and m doctors the lump was getting worse. It was getting bigger and bigger over the next five weeks and then started to bruise. After only two days on my last course of antibiotics I went to a different urgent care centre who immediately referred me to a hospital surgeon. You can guess it was an abcess. At first they were going to drain it but when the registrar surgeon looked at it he said I needed surgery to remove the abcess. I had surgery an hour later. I thought I would have stitches and that would be that so imagine my shock when the nurse removed the dressing and I had a gaping bug hole in my breast the size of a penny and few inches deep. She repacked it and it hurt like hell. Had to have it repacked again at the doctors today and it is now size of a ten pence piece just a day after surgery. Repacking hurt more. Nurse has advised its going to be repacked daily and probably for next two weeks at least. I am not so worried it is never going to heal or get worse and I need more surgery. Frightened x Been through so much in last six weeks since my second son was born six weeks ago by section even had abcess on the wound internally x

My issue is pain. Does anyone else have significant amounts of pain? Some nights it’s so ungodly it wakes me up. I have had ultrasounds and every time they come up fine. They can’t seem to find anything wrong with my breast after the surgery. They keep telling me this is normal. the pain is pretty horrible. Sometimes I bend over and cry my eyes out because I can’t take it.

The doctors took me off Vicodin (i can understand why) and have increased my use of Gabepentin. I take that twice a day now but I feel as if it’s a waste. It doesn’t relieve the pain. They are just prescribing it to me because they “think” it’s nerve damage for the initial infection.

Does anyone else have issues with severe shooting pains after surgery? Should I be going to another hospital for a second opinion?

Any help would be great.
