Let’s help these poor disabled folks!

I’ve been a leftist Democrat my entire life. I’m not exactly a Dem anymore, although I don’t know what I am. It’s a political self identity crisis. I will say that people of the Republican persuasion, contrary to popular stereotypes (that I believed too), have been the kindest, most welcoming and TOLERANT people ever. So much more tolerant (and well mannered) than my Dem counterparts.

I’m pro choice and open about it, and not one person has said oh you’re the devil, killing babies. Everyone has said (if they’ve said anything at all) we disagree. No yelling, no meltdowns, no calling me names.

Compare that with the fine behavior of the liberals, bloggers, effigy hangers, and others, who have been having fits since Sarah Palin came on scene.

The very first event that caused me to cock my head and go “what?” with respect to my fellow libs has to do with disability issues. And this is where I began to question everything.

I’m a disability rights activist (mental disabilities, primarily mental illness). I care about being treated with respect and having equal access. Though it’s been misused, I do believe in the ADA. (Thank you Pres. Bush!) I believe in Social Security benefits for crazy people, if they’re truly disabled and unable to function in a job.

These are typically “Democrat” ideals. Except the typical Democrat view is this: these poor retards, we have to help them, and if they don’t want our help, then we’ll force it on them because they’re too stupid/mentally unbalanced to know what’s good for them.

I call on the South African disability rights saying: Nothing about us without us.

In other words, YOU, dear Democrats, do not get to decide what’s right for me, or anyone else with a mental disablity. You may pat yourself on the back and get a thrill up your leg because you think you’re so helpful and so tolerant and good. The angels ARE NOT singing for you.

You’re full of shit.

I am not opposed to individuals who genuinely pose a risk to society being locked up until they no longer pose a risk. But just as “health of the mother” will be misused for convenience in partial abortion cases, this risk to society or self is very misused.

And if a person wants to refrain from taking psychiatric medications because they make him/her feel WORSE than the disease, that should be a personal choice. (If this means that person is going to remain so sick that s/he’ll have to remain in hospital, that’s also a choice…even if it’s NOT what you would choose to do.)

Until all of you have spent time being forced to take medications against your will that make you feel horrible, then you have ZERO RIGHT to tell anyone else what he/she should do. Case closed.

That said, I am OUTRAGED that another case has come to light where “helpers” of mentally disabled persons have taken them to vote, and pushed them (or tricked as it seems) into voting for Obama. And I would bet everything I have that most of these so-called helpers think they’re doing the right thing.

That is the biggest load and these people need to be called out. Then fired and banned from ever working in the field again. Sorry, but I take a NO TOLERANCE approach to misuse of powers that people have over disabled persons. (As I take a NO TOLERANCE view of the scum that keep accessing celebrity medical records and selling them to tabloids, or the dirtbags that get into Joe the Plumber’s records, illegally. They should all serve hard prison time.)

There is only a small difference between these helpers who trick/help their charges into voting for Obama and the lowlife folks in Iraq and other places that trick mentally disabled persons into strapping on bombs and sending them into public markets.

The only difference is the outcome: one set of people end up exploded into pieces, and the other set ends up voting for someone they did not want.

But the motives of the tricksters is the same: taking advantage of persons they see as LESS THAN.

No one is less than, despite your condescending, slobbering pretense of being helpful. I know you won’t, but I wish you’d take a good, hard look within and give it some thought.

In the meantime, keep on pretending you are wonderful saviors of people who are LESS THAN. You’re deluded, and when it comes to decency, you truly are LESS THAN.
