Hi Pez, I'm not sure which side you think I'm on. I definitely have different views from both right and left, not fitting neatly into either box. (I used to be a full-fledged Democrat, but left the party. Actually, I feel like the party left me and my views were no longer welcome.)

I agree that censorship isn't the right avenue. Dana definitely has a right to say what she thinks, and that's one of the things I love about her. She doesn't mince words. I just felt so strongly when hearing them that it was just the kind of thing the left would use to say "seeeee, these right wingers are so hateful!"

Once I got away from the Democratic party and the screeching about how horrible conservatives are and got to know some, I discovered that generally, they're pretty decent people. And unlike my own party, they've tolerated the views I hold that don't mesh with their own (such as my views on abortion...not one person from the right has yet to call me a name or try and argue me out of my position).

Thanks for your comment. :)

I'm sorry that you were shocked by the lack of remorse of people who are on your side. It happens though, that thing where people who hold views on the right/left side of the continuum do something that you personally disagree with and you still get lumped in with them. It might be worth thinking about how often that happens though. If the views you have are mostly represented by people who you don't want representing them, then maybe you don't have those views but different ones. I will say that this "scoring cheap political points" rhetoric is something that seems to come up more these days. The arguement that we should leave well enough alone is certainly a compelling one, (nobody likes to be in the limelight for bad reasons), but at some point we have a responsibility as a society to ask how we got here and where we are going to go next. So yes, it does matter why the killer did what he did and who he listened to. I'm not saying that we should start censoring people, because frankly that's unacceptable, we just need to remember that our words have an effect on others.
